The CCCS hosts the celebration of Martinje in Oakville’s Holy Trinity Catholic Church Hall on November 9, 2019.

What is Martinje or The Feast of St. Martin of Tours?

THE FEAST OF ST MARTIN is a day observed throughout the middle of Europe marking the old tradition of “the blessing of grape juice into a new wine”. In Croatia, the feast of St. Martin as well as the feast of St. Vincent are the two most observed and celebrated days of the year among the wine producers as well as the wine lovers. St. Martin is the patron Saint of wine producers. On November 11, in a symbolic way, the grape juice is christened into the new wine.

This year, Artistic Director Ed Mavrinac dressed as a bishop, led the choir’s team of actors and singers as they finished the harvest of grapes and gave his blessing to what would be no doubt a good vintage.  This fun filled, sold out event included a delicious harvest dinner, dancing with music provided by the talented group Frajeri and a raffle with lots of wonderful prizes.  The CCCS wishes to extend a heart felt thanks to the many donors who provided the raffle prizes and all our attendees and supporters.
