The CCCS performs at the “Martinje” Dinner and Dance. What is Martinje or The Feast of St. Martin of Tours?

THE FEAST OF ST MARTIN is a day observed throughout the middle of Europe marking the old tradition of “the blessing of grape juice into a new wine”.

In Croatia, the feast of St. Martin as well as the feast of St. Vincent are the two most observed and celebrated days of the year among the wine producers as well as the wine lovers. St. Martin is the patron Saint of wine producers.

On November 11, in a symbolic way, the grape juice is christened into the new wine. Usually, the host is dressed as a Bishop and he performs the christening with the accompaniment of music, good food and of course the celebration goes until the wee hours of the morning.
