Members of the CCCS were honoured to perform at Sunrise of Oakville seniors’ residence on Sunday, June 3, 2018.
Over 50 residents along with several staff members excitedly assembled on a beautiful spring afternoon in their comfortable, sunny bistro. Artistic Director Ed Mavrinac introduced the choir and gave the interested audience a brief history of Croatian choral music. After the choir performed several stirring pieces from the Croatian choral repertoire, enthusiastic applause and calls of bravo were heard throughout the residence’s main floor. Audience members also clapped and energetically sang along to much-loved songs such as You Are my Sunshine and Daisy, Daisy (Bicycle Built for Two).
As the performance drew to a close, CCCS President Mira Lorkovich Omura shared a printed pamphlet of “Ten Centuries of Croatian Music” and explained that the performance was made possible thanks to a funding grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Residents were happy to have an informative reminder of their enjoyable afternoon. They expressed their appreciation for the wonderful live entertainment and looked forward to a return visit from the choir later this year. Choir members alike enjoyed their visit and also look forward to visiting Sunrise of Oakville again.
